Visit us at the Farm!

Welcome to our magical world here at Magical Moon Farm! We ‘re a 501(C)(3) organization residing on a five acre, healthy, organic, spread of bliss, across the street from the Atlantic Ocean in Marshfield Hills MA.

Park in the field, bring a lunch, explore the grounds, the animals and birds and all the magical little nooks and crannies during your visit.

On Saturdays our Moon Lady Art Studio is open to the public from 10-4 PM. Five rooms with five generations of art from the Spencer/ Green/ Parent and /Miller-McCarthy family, who own the farm in trust is displayed in the gallery.

John Fredrick Spencer was the first generation of artists in the family. He helped establish the North Bennet Street School in Boston for immigrants coming to America to learn a trade of carpentry through making musical instruments. John’s son was Charles Fredrick Spencer, relative of Princess Dianna and Winston Churchill. Charles was a painter and philosopher who raised a large family through the great depression and learned to play the violin from his father. He played with the Boston Symphony for years until he cut his finger off with a carpentry tool. It was Ironic that the very tool his father used to make violins, would end his son’s career in playing. Bea Spencer Green was the next artist in the long line of artists in the family. She was known for her sweet primitive style paintings of her hometown of Cohasset. She showed her work in Cohasset Village for many years with her daughter and grand daughter as she passed down the creative family gene.

Donna Green was the fourth generation of artists in her family and probably the most famous to date, though her daughter Monique is fast at her heels in popularity. Her art is in some very prestigious collections as well. Donna had fourteen of her paintings kept in the national archives in Washington DC, after they were featured in an exhibition at the White House, during the Bush administration. Her art is in numerous museums and well known collections around the world and to date she’s authored and illustrated twelve titles and has eleven million books published world wide.

Donna, Adam and Monique started the Magical Moon Foundation for children with cancer and other life threatening conditions, at their family home in 1991 and have been welcoming families into their creative world ever since. Both, Adam Parent, a metal artist, and Monique Miller-McCarthy, a fine arts major and skilled artist, have continued as the fifth generation of artists in the family to display their work at Magical Moon Farm in Moon Lady Studio. The gallery was named after their great, great grandfather, John Fredrick’s painting in 1865, depicting a dear friend sitting on the a crescent moon. The painting hangs in the studio for all to admire, today.

If you’re a music aficionado, you may want to check out the four story barn at the farm during one of our amazing festivals or concerts. The acoustics of the barn and warmth of a crackling fire will instantly soothe and relax you. Some of the finest performers in the country play here frequently, surprising audiences with their unscheduled, appearances.

The farm itself has four acres of organic orchards, gardens, greenhouses, animal yards and a number of fanciful settings and buildings for the imagination to wander in and out of. Crow Cottage is a must see with its water wheel and sod roof enticing you to peek inside. Alison’s Butterfly Garden is another sweet spot, to sniff your way over to. Children learn about nature by walking through this amazing, garden, created specifically to educate visitors on the integral part we each play in keeping the earth healthy and in balance.

Magical Moon Farm is an extension site for many local schools to participate in field programs. The community is very blessed to still have this simple place, to help people feel safe and hopeful.

Summer internship candidates are carefully selected every winter to spend a summer at Magical Moon Farm learning ways to keep the magic alive and the farm growing strong.

Last, but certainly not least, Children will be delighted when they come across a familiar character in the garden, named the Velveteen Rabbit! Donna Green illustrated the book in 1991 and is always happy to sign a copy for visitors when they ask.

We hope you will enjoy the sanctity of Magical Moon Farm and come back often.

A reminder... we are a working farm and due to our farm animals and gardens for food, no dogs are allowed to visit the farm.
